Joe & Malcolm join the rest of the world in mourning the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman, whose iconic turn as Black Panther meant so much to so many people. Rest in power, king.
They soldier on to talk about the games they’ve played in August, including the return of a classic franchise and an absolutely infectious new battle royale. Come on in, the water’s fine!
So now that we’ve spent several hours catching up on 2018 and 2019, Joe & Malcolm get together to…spend several hours catching up on 2020! We’ve relaunched with a new monthly format, but we did that in the middle of a good year for games, so with this we’re all up to speed. Come on in and have a listen, will ya?
OK, then! We fell way behind our 2018 Game of the Year show and tried to get things going in May 2019. We haven’t recorded a regular episode of the show since and find ourselves smack dab in the year 2020, two GOTY shows behind.
The solution? Adopting a new monthly format, baby! Going forward, news will take a backseat in favor of talking about the games we’ve played over the past few weeks. Oh, and the world as we knew it a year ago is upside down, and there’s a whole new PlayStation coming. It’s a big episode. Continue reading

Joe & Malcolm’s old pal TL Foster joins in to start things off with the dark horse bracket to see which game gets the honor of making the main bracket featuring 16 of 2018’s greatest hits. Get in here, the water’s fine! Continue reading
On the latest episode of The Firmware Update, Joe and Malcolm talk all about the 2018 Game Awards as Joe’s apartment is suddenly accosted by terrible, sporadic construction noise that he can’t do anything about and forces the show to run shorter than planned. A real treat for the ears!
Talking Points: Red Dead Redemption 2 is a job; Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a love letter to video games; the actual awards given out by The Game Awards; Far Cry 5 gets a direct sequel; marvel at the return of Ultimate Alliance; one of the rare good non-Mario kart games gets its due; taking a trip to The Outer Worlds; a new Dragon Age is imminent, come hell or high water; Mortal Kombat 11 is gory as hell; Psychonauts 2 is coming along nicely; the first Smash DLC promises to take your heart.
